Sixth Grade Teacher Sarah Jones

After graduating from the University of Washington with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Speech Communications, I received my Master’s in Education from Bank Street College of Education in New York City. Bank Street has a constructivist philosophy, believing that you must meet children where they are in order for them to learn. They also rely heavily on providing meaningful, hands-on, real-world experiences for children to learn through. While in New York, I taught first and fourth grades at City and Country School. Being a native Oregonian, I returned to Portland and taught at Meriwether Lewis Elementary School for seven years before coming to the Creative Science School. I first learned about the Storyline method when I was in sixth grade, when it was introduced in the United States. As a teacher, I have always taught with Storyline, and I am overjoyed to be in a school where all teachers believe in the power and value of this approach.

Three years ago I was a Fulbright scholar and traveled throughout Mexico and Canada. I have also been very involved in drama and hope to bring some aspects of theater to CSS.

I maintain a blog for my 6th and 7th grade classes at jonesclassroom.org
