CSS Second Grade Newsletter 5

This has been a short but productive week! Students are starting to write down the books that they read each week. I am making a chart of all the books that we share as a class also. At the end of the year we will see just how many books we have read together and independently. Next week we will start out with terrariums and then move into our Storyline.

Child Development Specialist: Wednesdays

IMPORTANT NEWS

Looks for news next week regarding a field trip to Franz Bakery at the end of this month and school pictures are coming up. I will give you exact dates and times next week.

SHARING

The students share on Fridays. Each group is given an opportunity to share if it is their week. There will be new groups starting Monday. Please do not bring toys in for sharing. Thank you.

THEME/SCIENCE

We were reading about the continents in my Kids National Geographic magazine when I realized just how interested the students were in learning about geography. So, I brought in a map of the world and the students now know the 7 continents and can tell me which continents has the most and fewest countries. Ask them, it is amazing what they have learned.

WRITING

Students will continue working on the planning stages of writing and writing in their writer’s notebook. They wrote stories about a special person in their lives and they wrote about their names and where their parent(s) came up with their name.

READING

We started our guided reading groups, our independent reading (with comprehension building activities), silent reading, shared reading, and read-alouds.

MATH

We finished the unit assessments on our first math unit, Mathematical Thinking and will move into Coins, Coupons, and Combinations on Monday.
