Samples from the Kindergarten NewsletterJules sends home a newsletter on the last day of the school week. She writes it by hand on decorated paper. The character of the newsletter cannot be reproduced on the web. However, we can give you a sample of the kind of information that will come home with your child every week: This week we spent time studying boats. On Monday we used books from the library to do research about various kinds of boats. On Tuesday we did a survey asking the question, "Have you ever been on a boat?" On Wednesday I told a version of the story where Winnie the Pooh saves Piglet from a rainstorm by building a boat. Each of the children were asked to design and draw a boat making plan. On Thursday we actually carried out the plan. Each of the children built a boat. Ask your child to tell you how they built their boat. My thanks to Gretchen and Tracy for helping with this project. Ask your child to tell you how our pocket chart poem relates to what we are studying. In math this week, we learned about border patterns; recognizing, extending, and creating them. Ask your child to explain what a border pattern is. Ask your child what our new calendar pattern is. How is the calendar pattern different from the old calendar pattern? This week we have talked about the difference between an author and an illustrator. We have also been looking for places authors use quotation marks. We added the words "boats, we, made" to our word wall. Can you find any of these words in the books you read together? |
