Sample Fourth Grade Newsletter: January 5th, 2005

FIELD TRIP

Our field trip to the Oregon Children's Theater's production of The BFG will be next Wednesday, January 12th. We will leave Bridger at 8:20 A.M. and walk to 79th and Division to catch the #4 bus downtown. We will return on the #4 as well, arriving at Bridger by 1:30 P.M.

After the play the class will walk to Pioneer Square for a sack lunch. Students should pack a lunch with a drink to carry in their backpack. It is also very important that your child dress for the weather; as always, I expect it to be cold and wet.

I am hoping for several parents willing to help chaperone this excursion. If you would like to join us, please check your name below. Unfortunately, chaperones will need to pay the $7.50 admission fee (the admission fee in cash or check to Bridger School).

CURRICULUM

Math: Students have been learning about important numbers like 100, 1,000, and 10,000 that we use to find our way around the number system. To learn more about the unit, Landmarks in the Thousands, please read attached parent letter.
Reading/Writing: The class is finishing up The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and will soon begin Sounder.
Science/Health: On Monday we began a lengthy unit on body systems. During this time we will study the skeletal, muscular, respiratory, circulatory, digestive, and nervous systems. Late this week or early next, we’ll dissect owl pellets and study the bones we find.
Story: I'm reading a much-loved English book called Horrid Henry to the class.
Lifeskills/Virtues: We've been discussing the concept of precision.

By the way, Friday is "Freaky Hair Day" at Bridger/CSS. My own hair will be brown with gray bits. If any questions or concerns come up, please let me know. You may come in before or after school, call the school (503-916-6336, Room #23), write a note, or e-mail me, or leave a message for me to call. Feel free to visit our class at any time.
