ARCHIVENewsletter XCreative Science School First Grade NewsletterDECEMBER 3, 2004Our play is scheduled for December 13, 2004 at 6:00 in the cafeteria. We having been working on lines, movement, voice, background, props and of course positioning. The students are greatly enjoying this process. Our cricket cages are coming along very well. So far, two have gone home with crickets secured nicely inside. Thanks for your openness on this. I promise it will not be termites!! We are enjoying the arrival of the termite tunnels. It is fun seeing the diversity of them all. No, we wont check to see if they actually work or not. I hope you enjoyed the beaver dams. We had a fun time testing them for leaks. Our science unit has been very successful. We have been exploring their habitat, their food, their movement and the way they eat their food. We have been comparing the similarities and differences that exist between them and ourselves. In reading we are working on comprehension skills. I am enjoying the conversations from our last two stories. Ask your child about “Strange Bumps” and “The Guest”. In math we are exploring numbers and practicing addition and subtraction. We are also learning some new math games. Making a game out of math teaches the skills in a very concrete way. In writing we are working on a story about insects. It is fun watching their imaginations become alive in the written word. We continually work on friendship skills. The norms in our class are, think of others feelings, keep an open mind, endure through times which seem hard, and reflect on what we did and learned.
