First Grade Teacher: Jane Moser

I have been teaching in the Portland School District for fifteen years. I came to CSS with a strong background in the arts. Having graduated from PSU in 1980, I worked on my master’s degree at Lewis and Clark.

Teaching at CSS has provided me with the opportunity to explore themes in depth. The philosophy which lends itself to using all your senses, experiencing subjects in a multitude of ways and honoring the intelligence of the child meets with my criteria for instruction. Valuing prior knowledge , exploring common interests and accepting a variety of views opens the doors for challenging thinking and discussions.

CSS also provides me with a highly dedicated staff, supportive parents and our outstanding students. Together we nuture each other to a high respect of oneself and confidence to try and try again. Family life keeps me busy with 2 sons. My oldest son is at OSU majoring in chemistry and biology. My younger one is a sophomore at David Douglas High School. Both have enjoyed the sports of water polo and the swim team. As a family, we hike, camp, kayak, swim, and bike. Our trips have been to many states and national parks within the continental US. Education is highly valued in all we do.
