They did a great job performing four songs. I look forward to their learning some new songs and performing again later this year. In our Storyline, after deciding that we needed more “fish friendly” dams in Huk-toocht, the students formed design teams that built and presented box models of their ideas. This week we began a new math unit Picturing Polygons, all about 2 dimensional geometry. Look around for common or unusual shapes, point them out to your child, and talk about the uses of various shapes. FIELD TRIPSOur next trip is set for Thursday December 14th, when we go to Johnson Creek and release our salmon. While we’re there the students will also do observations & tests of the habitat our fish are going into. Permission slips went home this week. I still need parents to chaperone & drive in order to go forward with this trip. Please let me know ASAP if you can drive for this trip. Field trips too. We are still selling Chinook Books (the eco-friendly coupon book) to raise money for our spring trip to Opal Creek. They are quite handy with a wide variety of coupons and make nice holiday gifts, you can pick them up at our classroom. NOVEMBER ANIMAL RESEARCH PROJECTThis past week the students shared the drafts of their animal I-Search projects with Robin and me. We were very pleased with what we read. Most students had compiled solid information about their animal and the reports were well on their way. Finished reports (including a display of some type) are due Monday December 11th. RAINWATER GARDENDon’t forget the first Saturday of each month. From 10am to 1pm there is a garden work party where you can get dirty (or not) while helping out and learning about our rainwater garden. All are welcome, come rain or come shine (bring gloves or tools if you have them). You can get more information from M. Wilk 503-232-3831 SCHOOL OBSERVATIONSAre you interested in being a host taking prospective parents on “tours” of CSS? Do you know someone who’d like to be a host? Do you know someone looking for a school for their child? Observations tours of CSS begin later this year (winter) and we’re looking for volunteers to help. If you are interested talk to me or Teacher Jules. DATES TO REMEMBERDecember 1st: Tonight is CRAFT NIGHT 6:30-8:30 |
